36 artists + 28 fiberglass light bulbs = 300 square feet of public art
Lighten Up Spartanburg is a large scale public art project that bolsters the cultural vitality of downtown Spartanburg, expands the local economy through tourism, provides opportunities to local and regional artists, and fosters connections between local businesses and the arts.
Spartanburg Art Museum (SAM) and PAL – Play. Advocate. Live Well. sought proposals from artists, artisans, designers, and other creatives to make art on trees along the brand-new River Birch public walking trails in The Dan Trail System. This exciting new public art project, Creativitrees, coincided with the opening of PAL’s trail extension in the spring of 2023.
