Course Description: Working with an expanded arsenal of drawing methods and materials. participants will discover the limitless potential of drawing to develop the critical thinking and abilities necessary for the creation of works that stretch the definition of traditional drawing.
Course Outcomes:
- Participants will develop creative ways to express themselves through experimentation.
- Participants will develop an increased awareness of what constitutes drawing today.
- Participants will develop the ability to evaluate their work and the work of others.
- Participants will develop a vocabulary of terms related to the practice of drawing.

Instructor Bio:
A Hub City native, David Shurbutt is a graduate of The University of South Carolina Columbia where he earned a BA in Studio Art and a MA in Media Art. After a career as a museum exhibit and graphic designer, he enrolled in the three year Master of Fine Arts in Studio (MFAST) low residency graduate program at The Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD receiving his MFA in Studio Art in 2017. David has a multidisciplinary practice and a body of work in drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and video. He has exhibited primarily in the Southeast, but also in the Mid-Atlantic, West Coast, and Mid-West. David’s eclectic work is dedicated to the memory of his son Kai and reflects his interest in paleoanthropology, Jungian psychology, science fiction, and deep ecology.
